With over 30 years of financial advising and investment planning experience, Tim Schoeffler came to CIC Wealth in March 2010. As part of our Gaithersburg office, Tim educates clients about fiscal principles, from the most day-to-day budgeting to complex investments, that involve their individual lives.
Tim helps clients by administering their assets to generate income (if retired), to mature (if working), or to pass on to family and charity.
In 1979, Tim worked in New York City at Merrill Lynch as an equity research specialist. In 1982 he worked with EF Hutton as national product director of their group of mutual funds. He joined Oppenheimer Funds in 1988 as regional vice president of the Mid-Atlantic where he covered Virginia, Washington, DC, Maryland, and West Virginia. He educated financial planners on Oppenheimer’s services and products.
Following 12 years at Oppenheimer, Tim joined GE Financial, which later became Genworth, where he focused on developing retirement strategies for clients. He later worked at Allianz for several years, positioning their retirement investment strategies. In 2007, he went to Curian Capital, a subsidiary of Jackson National Life Insurance Company based in Denver.
Since 1979 Tim has been a Series 7 General Securities Representative and is also registered as Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent) and Series 65 (Investment Advisor agent) with Commonwealth Financial Network, Member FINRA/SIPC, a Registered Investment Adviser.
Tim is a graduate of Georgetown University’s Executive Certification in Financial Planning Program and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. He has also achieved the designation ACCREDITED INVESTMENT FIDUCIARY®. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School’s Securities Industry institute.
Tim earned a BA in History from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. He also studied in New Orleans at Tulane University and he completed high school at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts.
For 26 years Tim has resided in the Washington DC area and has remodeled four historic houses. He presently lives DuPont Circle in his current project. In his free time, Tim loves skiing, reading and traveling.
